Mulberry Bank Auctions will be offering a rare opportunity to purchase an original artwork by Sir Billy Connolly at auction on Thursday 29th January. This is only the 2nd time that one of his original mixed media artworks has been offered at auction.

Billy Connolly’s pictures are currently exclusively sold by Castle Fine Art with original works costing as much as £40,000 and limited edition prints setting you back up to £5,500, making the offering at Mulberry Bank Auctions even more appealing as the work is estimated at £15,000 - £18,000.

His unmistakable style is charmingly simplistic, with his humour communicated through shapes and lines, with this work being no exception. Featured by The Times and documentaries including Billy Connolly: It's Been a Pleasure, his minimalist drawings have been described as 'poignant', 'funny' and 'enigmatic' by critics.

The picture being offered at auction on 29th January is titled ‘Serious Combover’ and dates to 2012. It was exhibited at the 2015-2016 'Art of Billy Connolly' Exhibition which took place at the People's Palace in Glasgow; and also features in the book 'Billy Connolly -The Accidental Artist' by John Murray (page 32), a copy of which is sold alongside the picture, together with a letter of provenance, the original sales receipt and various insurance and valuation documents.
